I'm 20, I live in Miami, and smiling is my favorite.
“Clutching her good purse, she checked each daughter for signs of makeup before allowing her to get in the car, and it was not unusual for her to send Lux back inside to put on a less revealing top. None of us went to church, so we had a lot of time to watch them, the two parents leached of color, like photographic negatives, and then the five glittering daughters in their homemade dresses, all lace and ruffle, bursting with their fructifying flesh.”-
The Virgin Suicides, Jeffrey Eugenides.
Every year around early spring I seem to think about
The Virgin Suicides, the book and the movie, the story is one I come back to periodically through both mediums. The movie (the whole movie is on
You Tube for some reason) is so visually engaging, everything is so light and almost sun-bleached looking, I suppose because almost every second of film could be a photograph and the book is so richly detailed that it is easy to become engrossed in the tragic tale of the Lisbon sisters. (
